Pirates wore eye patches so they could have one eye that coud see in day light and the other ready to see in the dark.  Pretty sneaky!  Bet you thought it was to cover a scary injury.  Actually it was a really smart way to be dastardly.  Arrgh!

The Iris - the colored part of your eye - is actually a ring of muscles which opens and closes to control the amount of light that gets in.
It is named after the Greek goddess of rainbows.

Bats can see with their ears.  They send out high pitched squeaks and use the echo to figure out where they are.  Humans can do this too ~ just not as well.  If your eyes were closed and you were walking through a room, you could speak and get an idea how close to the wall you were.

The biggest bone in the body is the Femur/thigh bone.  It is the longest and strongest bone we have.  It can hold up a weight of more than 1 ton - yet a blow from the side can break it.  Each bone in your body is the right size and shape for the special job that it does.
