Dog Day Afternoon

Dog day afternoons... is this what it has come to?  With all this snow - this wonderful white crystal prison - sealing us in our homes, the saying has come to mind.

The kids loved the snow concept for a while, but it was short lived.  Shoveling the walk once was enough, but alright already with the flakes!  Now twice?!!  A snowman now dutifully guards our front lawn.  Wet scarves, wet coats, wet gloves, wet socks... they, too, soaked up their fill of the blizzard.  The cold soggy pile swamped the front door.

Then there was Toots... who peered out the sliding glass windows.  Our curious puppy followed each new flake on its course to the ground.  The world as she knew it had drastically changed.  I wonder what goes thru a dogs mind, especially one that has not experienced an event such as this.

I wasn’t looking forward to letting her out, mostly because that would mean that I would have to let her back in.  A wet, soggy, smelly, overexcited puppy was not exactly what I wanted running thru my house.  No matter how much I try to dry her, she was still destined to dry herself on my rug - I just know it.

Besides, isn’t it every females lot in life to hold her pee for a good cause?!  A cleaner bathroom, a purpose driven - make that male driven drive, a long line that only seems to head to the ladies room...  Why not for the sake of a clean dry house?  I said why not?!

Nothing I say matters!  What else is new?!  The moment could wait no more.  Nature had done its duty, and now Toots needed to do hers.  Out the door she bounded.  Her white furry body lost in the whiteness of the snow.  Like a gazelle she spun around to face me, as if to say thanks for letting me out.  A patch of snow covered the black of her nose, all that was left was the black of her eyes.  A falling flake caught her attention and she was off.  Leaping and bounding through the mounds.

I give up.  Such a mean mommy am I... Let the puppy play.  Let the children play... and yes, let them back in when they have had enough.   I went and put water on for hot chocolate.

I believe there is a light at the end of the tunnel!

Now if I could just find the tunnel.....

Upon hearing that school was cancelled AGAIN due to the snow... Charlee beamed and bellowed
'Bring on the cookies!'
(Normally there are no cookies on school nights ~ no-one would ever go to sleep :)
